The
Ridgeway Trace apartments, formerly known as the Sweetbriar apartments
when built in the 1960s at Poplar and Interstate 240, a 445 unit
complex, was demolished in 2007 to make way for a new retail center. A Houston based retail investment trust is building nearly 400,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space on the 26 acres along the heavily traveled Poplar Avenue corridor. Target has committed to be the major anchor store in the shopping center. The Target store is expected to open in March, 2009 with other stores to open in the autumn of that year. Other stores mentioned as possibly locating in Ridgeway Trace
Center include Barnes and Noble bookstore, Best Buy, and The Cheesecake
Factory. The site plan and other information about the shopping area is available from the Weingarten Realty Investors web site. |
